Photos were also uploaded to Facebook which showed three fresh fire pits on the ground and trees cut to stumps.

They dubbed the campers as an “utter disgrace” for “harming the environment”.

The post read: “Wildfires at the moment are a real danger.

“However, it seems on the NC500 some don’t either care or think about their actions.

“These are three fresh fire pits with freshly cut trees for firewood I came across this morning whilst out west. Utter disgrace.

“Not only are people harming the environment by cutting down trees, but the fire risk is very high at the moment.

“Open fires in the countryside should be illegal during the summer months. There is simply no reason to light one.”

More raging residents flocked to the comments and were outraged by the campers’ actions.

One person said: “No reason to hack down trees and leave blackened fire pits everywhere. These are not proper outdoors people doing this.”

A second wrote: “It’s utterly baffling that people go to the time, effort and expense to travel to these remote and beautiful locations only to then show complete disrespect, disregard and contempt for the environment and the landscape once they get there.”

A third commented: “Despicable. When on earth did people become so entitled?”

And a fourth added: “I hate the destruction.”

It comes as NC500 locals blasted motorhome tourists who have a “complete disrespect for Scotland” amid a row over parking fees.

A resident in Golspie, Sutherland, took to social media to complain about visitors not paying voluntary fees in a council car park.

And fed-up residents have accused visitors of stealing from graveyards.

Some motorhome drivers following the tourist trail appear to be reluctant to pay to park in official sites.

Instead they’ve been camping at graveyards and cemeteries where they hang out their washing and even have BBQs.

The tourists even help themselves to the water that is only supposed to be used by families visiting graves.
