WA town of Bremer Bay offering $450k to a GP willing to move and work in the region

A beachside community in Western Australia needs a new general practitioner — and the local practice is offering a huge sum to anyone willing to take on the job.

Livingston Medical is advertising a GP role in Bremer Bay, on the state’s south coast between Albany and Esperance.

The job comes with an eye-watering $300,000 to $450,000 salary and also includes additional perks such as a rent-free house and a car.

Australian GPs earn an average salary of $233,304 according to Indeed.

The successful candidate can opt to collect 70 per cent of their billings or take home a salary.

On top of that, the job comes with a five-bedroom home and a four-wheel-drive to help the new doctor get around the region.

“Live rent-free in a scenic location, experiencing the true essence of rural Australia,” the advertisement said.

“Work within a supportive environment alongside experienced professionals including practice managers, receptionists, nurses, and allied health staff.

“Enjoy autonomy in your practice while receiving ample support and resources to excel in your role.”

Applicants should be registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA), have relevant experience or be willing to train and develop as a rural generalist and “have a strong commitment to delivering high-quality patient care and building lasting relationships within the community”.

The advertisement is not the only one of its kind, with a high demand for doctors in rural areas.

Inverell, situated in NSW on the Macintyre River close to the Queensland border, is offering $30,000 on top of prospective GP’s salaries as part of a local council program aimed at securing more health professionals in the area.

And the local health service at Julia Creek, a farming and mining town near Mount Isa in Queensland, offered a salary of more than $500,000 plus free rent in its bid to secure a new GP in 2022, with the council supplying a rent-free, four-bedroom home.
