WASO, Sara Macliver & Alpesh Chauhan in James Ledger world premiere plus Beethoven 9th at Perth Concert Hall

Two hundred years after Beethoven’s Ode to Joy first rang out, WA Symphony Orchestra combined it with a deeply poignant James Ledger song cycle, premiered by soprano Sara Macliver under conductor Alpesh Chauhan, at Perth Concert Hall on Friday.

Ledger introduced the lyrics of Irish poet Paula Meehan for The Last Thing, a trilogy of mourning centred on close family: “I hope you’re all moved,” he concluded.
