Woolworths fined for selling out of date food: Is your local store affected?

Woolworths supermarket has been hit with a hefty fine after it was found to be selling out of date food at one of its popular Sydney stores.

The NSW Government’s Food Authority issued Woolworths with a penalty notice for $1320 over the incident that occurred at the Seven Hills store.

In an penalty notice that was published online, the food safety body found that the store had sold expired food on December 19, 2023.

It listed the offence description as “Sell food that is unsuitable – Corporation” and that the nature and circumstances of the alleged offence was the “sale of food past its use-by date”.

The NSW Food authority offered no further information on what types of expired products that Woolworths had been accused of selling.

It stated that details the penalty notice — issued by Blacktown City Council — were first published on March 5, 2024.

A Woolworths spokesperson has told 7NEWS.com.au that it has already paid the fine it was issued.

“We take food safety very seriously and were disappointed to receive this feedback at our Seven Hills store,” the spokesperson said.

“The store was checked and steps were taken to rectify the issue immediately. Follow up visits occurred from our food safety team in the days following the report with no additional finds.

“We accepted the Food Premise Assessment Report, alongside the fine from Blacktown City Council which we paid promptly.”
