Passengers jetting off for Easter have been warned not to take Cadbury Creme Eggs in their hand luggage – as they may breach security rules.
Airports allow travellers to carry several containers of liquids onto planes, as long as they are not more than 100ml each.
But baffling guidance suggests Creme Eggs could be confiscated at security checkpoints due to their liquid centres – even though they weigh just 40g each.
Each airport sets its own guidelines, meaning travellers face an Easter Egg roulette this weekend. Heathrow told passengers not to take Creme Eggs in hand luggage as ‘you very well may be stopped during security checks’.
But Bristol Airport said that all sealed Easter eggs should be stored in hand luggage and easily accessible in case extra security checks are needed. However, Luton and Dublin airports both said all eggs, including Creme Eggs, were accepted in hand luggage.
Denise Williams, on her way to Milan with four large Easter eggs in her suitcase, said, “They’re just a treat for the kids, not a security threat.”
A spokesman for Bristol Airport said it was “normal guidance” for customers to put Easter eggs in hand luggage.
