Ex-Rutgers player transfers back to Big Ten

Kay’Ron Lynch-Adams is coming back to the Big Ten.

The former Rutgers running back is transferring to Michigan State for his final year of eligibility after spending the past three seasons at UMass, he announced on Tuesday night. The move sets up a meeting on November 30th, when the Spartans host the Scarlet Knights on the final week of the regular season.

Lynch-Adams starred for the Minutemen, emerging as one of the best running backs in the country last season. He rushed for 1,153 yards and 12 touchdowns on 236 carries (4.9 per carry), ranking 20th nationally in rushing and tied for 22nd in rushing touchdowns. He also forced 71 missed tackles (fourth nationally), per ProFootballFocus.

Lynch-Adams transferred to Amherst in 2021 after spending his first two collegiate seasons in Piscataway. The three-star recruit was a member of the 2019 recruiting class, with former coach Chris Ash’s staff holding off a late push from Iowa to get his signature.

Lynch-Adams played in nine games as a freshman, rushing for 161 yards and a touchdown on 48 carries. He remained with the Scarlet Knights during head coach Greg Schiano’s first season back at the helm in 2020, playing all nine games of the coronavirus-impacted campaign, rushing for 159 yards and a touchdown on 35 carries to go with four catches for 73 yards and a score.

Lynch-Adams announced his decision to commit to Michigan State on the same day that Spartans running back Jalen Berger, a former standout and teammate of Rutgers star Kyle Monangai at Don Bosco Prep, entered the transfer portal for the second time in his career.
