Just a little over a week till the start of the new school year on the 17 January and thousands of learners are set to begin their high school careers in some of the most sought after schools in Gauteng.
Online applications for grade eight in Gauteng began in June 2023, with placements taking place in mid-September.
SPACE VERSUS DEMAND
Schools were inundated with applications, with two schools Parktown Boys High School and Alberton High received 12 times the number of applications compared to space available to allocate learners.

However, according to the Gauteng Department of Education, the Katlehong Manufacturing, Transport and Logistics school of Specialisation was the most sought-after school in the province. It received 2641 applications.

LATE APPLICATIONS TO GAUTENG SCHOOLS

The provincial education department has advised parents whose children are yet to be placed in a school for grade eight to visit the admissions website.
A list of schools near your given address that have not reached capacity will be made available.
Parents are to select and make an application to one school only- no documents.
The child will then be automatically placed in the selected, The departments has futher urgesd that documents are to be submitted directly to the school.
