Al-Amir Dawes, Seton Hall rout UNLV to reach NIT semifinals

The three Big East teams in the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament are doing their part to show how egregious the conference’s snubs were — and Seton Hall is holding up its end in the NIT.

The Pirates rolled for the second straight game, posting a 91-68 beatdown of UNLV at Walsh Gymnasium on Wednesday to reach the semifinals.

It comes after Seton Hall cruised past North Texas, 72-58, in the second round.

Coach Shaheen Holloway’s team will face Georgia at Hinkle Fieldhouse in the semis on April 2 in Indianapolis.

Seton Hall (23-12) had five players in double figures, built a 44-26 lead at the break — capped by a Dylan Addae-Wusu slam — and never looked back.

Al-Amir Dawes led the Pirates with 21 points, six rebounds and three assists and Kadary Richmond posted 16 points, 10 rebounds and four rebounds.

Dre Davis has 14 points and seven rebounds, Addae-Wusu had 12 points and Jaden Bediako chipped in 11.

Seton Hall shot a torrid 51.6 percent from the field and forced 13 Runnin’ Rebels turnovers.

Kalib Boone paced UNLV (21-15) with 16 points and five rebounds.

The Pirates, along with St. John’s and Providence many believed were snubbed from the NCAA Tournament after five bid-stealers took at-large bids away.

Seton Hall is now two wins away from making the most of its situation and ending with a championship.

Indiana State — another NCAA snub — awaits the winner of VCU and Utah in the other semifinal.
